Border Afterlives: Homicide by Policy Webinar
Date: Thursday, October 29th
Time: 4:00 PM PT / 7:00 PM ET
Spanish interpretation will be provided.
In 2026, medical examiners made a landmark decision, categorizing two Border Patrol-linked hypothermia cases as Homicides. In both instances, agents released individuals from detention into extreme cold environments without access to phones, rides, or shelter. While the official strategy historically leverages the hostile desert environment to deter crossings—resulting in thousands of deaths classified merely as “Accidents”—these recent rulings demand a shift in how we define accountability.
During this webinar, Dr. Gabriella Soto will analyze these homicide cases in connection to US border enforcement strategies. She will explore the urgent need to expand the medical-legal definition of homicide to accurately reflect systemic policy decisions that put human lives at risk.
You will also hear from community leaders, witnesses, and advocates on how we can collectively demand immediate changes in immigration policymaking to protect immigrants’ rights.
