NNIRR Strongly Condemns SCOTUS MPP Decision

NNIRR strongly condemns the Supreme Court’s refusal to block the reinstatement of Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) despite the Biden administration’s appeal on the lower court ruling by a Texas judge ordering its resumption.

MPP is a Trump-era policy that has exacerbated a humanitarian crisis at the U.S.–Mexico border, forcing over 70,000 people with asylum claims to remain in Mexico under harrowing and dangerous conditions. There have been thousands of documented cases of kidnappings, rape, and killings, and families forced to wait in unsafe camps lacking access to basic needs such as clean water and medical care.

“The right to seek asylum is enshrined in U.S. and international law. MPP is unlawful and must be rescinded. The Biden administration should take every step in its power to appeal the lower court ruling and bring this travesty to an end.”
